Bman asked:
I’ve heard that a “personal” wind turbine” that costs about $13,000 will pay for itself in about 5 years. Does that mean that if I get a 5 year loan for the cost, I could use the proceeds from it to pay it off each month with nothing out of pocket? If that is the case, everyone with some land and able to get a loan should buy one!

It’s not that easy. There is installation costs, costs of batteries, cost to hook it up to your utility power. All of that adds to the cost.
Plus local zoning laws have to be checked. The neighbors will object.
If you are serious, contact the utility company and see what their rules are. Then find a local contractor that specializes in these and get a quote. Get an estimate of how much wind you get and how much power you will get.

If you have any kind of do-it-yourself ability, you can find plans on the internet that let you build one yourself for MUCH cheaper than that. I think the total materials cost is around $200 or something.
There’s a squidoo lens about it:
I think there are also plans there for homemade solar power, too.
