make solar power43 Do we really need to use oil?
gmoney asked:

With Korea’s recent sickening oil spill affecting an animal reserve, makes me think oil should not be allowed to be transported. It kills our oceans! Do we really need to use oil at all? Now that we have solar, wind and ocean power as well as natural gas, why are we still burning oil and coal?

most of the powers you said are not always available. natural gas still has pollution. we still need to use oil for us to have a more effective power. oil spills are mischievous and careless acts. oil spills depends on the people who carry the oil if they want to spill it or not. we have not yet found a very effective alternative to replace oil so even we don’t want to use it, we still need to use it if we don’t want to live in the dark at night.

It was tried at the end of the Carter administration, but big oil bought up all competition. Brazil made some big moves in 1972-82 with sugar cane and nuke power. World corporations own and control the world so until their ready for the change it,ll never happen. Try to do something great to help and you,ll join JFK

no we dont need to use it, but the oil companies determine what we use at the moment. there is alot tied up in oil rigs, oil companies, gas stations et cetera. Big investment is required to make the changes – it seems the investment needed is going into weapons and war to grab oil instead of towards a better future –

Yes, we really need to use oil. Not all of it is used for power generation. We can’t lubricate everything with graphite.

We use it for much more than just energy. Plastic, pesticides, fertilizer and grease are just a few of the items that come to mind. So we will probably always need some form of it.

Yes we do. There is currently no other source for the massive amounts of energy we need to run our world.

*As of this time, yes. It still can be used as a source of energy along with other alternative fuels.
We really haven’t delved into with full commitment of cleaning up the emissions of oil. I think they can be made to burn much cleaner.
The hulls of these tankers are supposed to be double hulled. the compartments are supposed to be sealed independently of each one so the oil can’t all settle into one part of the ship. This is so it’s harder for the ship to sink.
