zachbell asked:
If you have an alternator hooked up to a few blades outside, then what do you do with the two wires from the generator? How can it be used?
Can it power my computer? What circuitry does it take to charge a car battery with it? If possible, can it be integrated into my home power grid?
I see many with wind turbines but they don’t go into how they use it.

They make it look simple, don’t they. OK It works like this, The blades on the alternator is only the first part. And that’s more complex that you think. Blade shape is everything. Do you have light breezes most of the time or lots of wind like on the ocean? Once you figure out the blades then you have to hook up the alternator correctly. There are 4 electrical connections, not 2. 2 wires are used to create the magnetic field needed to make electricity and the other 2 are the outputs. Actually 1 of them is just a wire bolted to the outer casing of the alternator. OK we now have 12 volts of charged battery. At most you can hope for is about enough power to run your computer. Now, you want to get a device called a power inverter. What it does is turn 12 volts Direct Current into 120 volts Alternating Current. No, I wouldn’t hook this to your power grid, but it can be done if you have a lot more power than 1 alternator. Actually this is how a solar cell system works. You can use this small system to power just your computer though.

Check out my company
Then go to ‘wind power systems’

What you see outside is essentially a wind powered battery charger. The batteries inside power an inverter which will supply 120VAC to selected circuits in the house.
I’m putting together something similar which may help you understand what is being done. Read through my web page for wiring diagrams, charge controller, tower drawings, pictures, etc.
