Why is GRP used in the manufacture of wind turbine blades?

Kay Y asked:

why is GRP used over other composites? and what properties make it officient for wind turbines?

    Make Home Solar Panels

Wind turbines are exposed to rains and winds . the environment of water and oxygen will cause corrosion in iron or steels in such severe conditions so the wind mills are made of GRP (fiber glass reinforced plastic) which is non reactive to oxygen and water !

    god bless!

    Make Residential Solar Panels

Its light, strong and cheap, and can be manufactured in the required size and shape.

What other composites would you chose?

Carbon fibre composite is stonger but more expensive.
