Monument asked:

I have a farm with 100 unused acres. I was thinking of putting in a solar field. Does anyone know the economics of solar fields? Specifically, what do the panels cost, how much is installation, how much power do they generate, what can I sell that power for and is it easy to “attach to the grid”?

you would be subject to federal regulation as a commercial power plant. this can have serious consequences for you. it’s been a while since i have checked the prices but i believe that it’s running about $8-10 a kilowatt.

First of all I´d analyse the medium and long term market for electricity supply. Ideas like yours might have showed up in more than one head. Technology is rather simple and well known. I think you need to have a good knowledge about circuits, batteries, wires, Joules effects etc. Profits depend on the growth of that companies and the costs that some monopolies could apply to you so that you can use their nets.
Agreements with big companies and the State are key.
